Well, I think it’s hyped up in the article a bit (as usual) but it’s a pretty cool tool if you want to do research on trends. For instance, if you’re a Super Bowl advertiser and you want to see how effective your Super Bowl ads were, then you could see if the searches around your brand spiked during that time.
There is some really valuable info in there, especially for larger retail businesses. I’m not sure the news search is working though. I searched the phrase “basketball olympics” knowing that there were a lot of stories on it recently. The results showed me the spike in trends, and which countries were searching that phrase the most, rising searches, etc but above the graph it said “news stories weren’t found for your query.”
I know that’s innacurate b/c you can type “basketball olympics” into normal google search and it will pull up news stories right at the top.
