ICANN approves creation of thousands of new TLD’s for 2009

Jun 30

I may be a little late in hearing this as it was approved 3 days ago, but ICANN decided to allow for thousands of new TLD’s so companies can have their own custom TLD such as .ebay, .pepsi or .tpi

I’m sure the domainers out there partied all weekend. This could have an impact on SEO too.

Hilarious

So my brother works for Autotrader.com and one of their clients just put some really funny commercials on YouTube so he sent the link to me. I’m not sure who produced the commercials for them but they’re awesome. I love the “wiggle room” one.

Don’t ask Abram about Black Holes unless you’re REALLY interested. He’s scary smart.

Wordle Anyone?

Jun 24

You’re all far more savvy than I am, so you’ve probably already seen this thing, but I just found it. Wordle (http://wordle.net/), is a cool little site where you can generate a word cloud from a group of text. Here’s one I put together from some of the copy on our current site: http://wordle.net/gallery/wrdl/26910/TPI

That’s Google with a big “G”

Jun 19

Ok, maybe it’s just me, but I’m not feeling Google’s new favicon… you know the little web page icon near the URL.

When I think Google, I think “big G” not “little g”. Even stranger, is that they actually WERE the big G and made a conscious effort to be little. Maybe it’s just me, but seriously – do they realize how this could impact the way people interpret their brand?

All I’m saying is don’t be surprised if they regress a little after a move like this. Never underestimate the power of an authoritative capital letter!

Center’d Beta

Jun 19

The Center’d concept is kind of an interesting enhancement to local search. It’s like local search with event planning and maps integration. Kind of like Yahoo Local meets Evite. Here’s a summary:

Video to Drive 50% of Net Traffic

Jun 18

Something to think about:

“Internet video will account for half of all consumer Internet traffic by 2012, according to new research from Cisco. In its Visual Networking Index (PDF), the company says video already accounts for a quarter of all consumer Internet traffic, a number that will rise to 32 percent by the end of the year.”

376 mpg car in 1973?

Jun 16

So I’ve been doing some research to prepare for the social media marketing for Black Magic, and I keep running into a story in forums, blogs, etc about a car that got 376.59 mpg back in the 70’s in a contest hosted by Shell Oil companies. They claim the car was modified a lot, and the gasoline was vaporized before entering a super-heated (and super insulated) engine. I have no idea if this is true or some internet hoax that generated a lot of buzz, but it’s kind of interesting to read.

I first came across the story in Jay Leno’s Garage forums, then saw it here:
